Oscar's Wine Bar & Bistro and the Biltmore Bar & Grill are first and foremost family-run establishments with quality and welcoming at the heart of all they do.
Established in 1982, Oscar’s Wine Bar & Bistro was one of the first businesses to open in the Swinegate/Stonegate quarter. Over the years Oscar’s has become a firm favourite amongst York residents and tourists with it’s warm and inviting atmosphere, hearty Bistro food and a wide selection of delicious wines and cocktails. After many years of success this family-run business decided to expand on a new venture. Around the corner a magnificent Elim Pentecostal Church became available and from here the Biltmore Bar & Grill was born. Oscar’s moved in next door and these venues have dominated Swinegate ever since.
Inspired by the gastro-club style of dining in New York, the Biltmore is York’s answer to true sophistication and metropolitan style. With a champagne selection boasting one of only 2 bottles of 1995 Dom Perignon (silver jeroboam dipped in white gold) valued at around £19,995 the Biltmore really gives a sense of occasion and something special. Despite it’s impressive status the atmosphere couldn’t be more welcoming and friendly, catering for someone having a quick bite and a pint at the bar all the way to corporate banqueting. The recent addition of Mark Hill, our fantastic new Head Chef, has given the kitchen a breath of fresh air and he is quickly turning the Garden Grill into the most exciting and dynamic restaurant in York.
Across the pennines another venture beckoned and, in 2012, Oscar’s Wine Bar & Bistro opened it’s doors in Lancaster. Oscar’s Lancaster is a genius hybrid of the metropolitan sophistication of the Biltmore Bar & Grill and the hearty, homely bistro atmosphere of Oscar’s York. It didn’t take long to become the place to see and be seen in Lancaster and, to this day, continues to go from strength to strength.
